COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS
I love working with other people on their small projects, it enables me to develop my communication, time management and design skills. By working with different people, it allows me to expand my mind creatively as people will often want to work with completely different art styles depending on what their project is designed for.
FASHION PROMOTION - PROMOTING WOMEN IN SPORTS 2019
In 2019 I was asked to help a friend with her fashion project. She wanted to create a 'zine' promoting women in the sports industry.
Her group decided to take a different approach and based the theme design of the zine around old fashioned arcade games. She asked me if I could design a small pixel character to be displayed on the zine and told me how she wanted it to look and what features she wanted it to have.
After deciding on a design I then made multiple options with different coloured outfits, poses etc. Overall, the pictures were a success and I was able to deliver the brief effectively.
TRENT PTS - INTERNSHIP CHALLENGE
In my final year at University I was involved in carrying out a creative brief for Trent PTS (a Psychotherapy service in Nottingham). We had to produce an animation based around the mental effects of suicide bereavement.
It was important for us to research heavily into this topic as is was imperative we did not use any triggering imagery and the intentions of the video were clear. We had constant meetings with the therapists that worked there to ensure we understood what work they do, what style they wanted the animation to be in and what information they wanted to include in the piece. I interviewed people who had experienced this type of bereavement and used information they had given me in the animated production.
As a team, we worked well and communicated effectively to end with a completed piece at the end of the two weeks.
Here are some of the storyboard panels from the piece>>
Each scene was black and white, with pencil textures (as this was what the client requested). We added elements of yellow to signify the person they had lost in each scene and the colour yellow was also symbol of suicide.
Each scene had animated lines with some character animation. It was important we kept it as simple as possible to ensure we would finish in the given time frame, not forgetting to portray the emotional significance of each scene.
We put a voice over with quote from the interviews using voice actors. We also included statistics to inform viewers of the importance of mental health.
We were incredibly grateful to work on such an important piece of animation and were proud of the outcome we had achieved. We also had a lot of positive responses to the video and were asked to stay on and volunteer for the company to create content for their social media.
LOGO DESIGNS
Recently a friend of mine got into performing DJ sets at nightclubs and wanted a simple yet effective logo that would reflect the music he performed and the atmosphere he wanted to create. He wanted it to advertise his Instagram page so I made sure the dimensions were correct for that purpose.
He gave me a brief description of what he wanted. His initial ideas were based around the name 'Element' and said he wanted a reference of the periodic table in the logo. He also wanted soundwaves in the background of the logo.
After sending a few concept sketches, he decided on a design and wanted to make a few changes before I went ahead to create the final outcome. I came up with a few different variations of a similar design so that he could decide which logo reflected his brief the most.
Overall, he was happy with the outcome, especially within the small time frame he wanted it completed.
